Stuart M3 Bathtub tank
This is what I term a "bathtub tank": where the hull has been cut off just above track level. Unfortunately these are mostly what you find when you track down a tank rumour.
As you can see, sometimes the rumour about a tank at such and such location may be correct; the problem being just how much is left?
Note the Grant sprocket sitting in the RHS of the hull and also the volute spring (coil) in the left front of the hull, looks big enough to be a Grant spring.
These were partly the cause of the excessive noise generated by U.S. tanks of the era as they squeak badly. The later model Shermans had the volute coils mounted horizontally, why I have yet to learn.
