RUSTON PROCTOR TRACTOR
Established in 1840 as Proctor & Burton. Joseph Ruston joined the partnership in 1857 when the firm became Ruston Proctor. In 1899 a Limited company was formed Ruston Proctor & Co Ltd. In 1903 a new design of Ruston Proctor traction Engine appeared on the market giving the choice of double crank compounds and single cylinder versions, the latter being produced in some quantity. In 1918 the firm amalgamated with Richard Hornsby Ltd. to become the more well know company of Ruston Hornsby. The firm stayed this way for many years producing many fine engines including the famous Ruston Steam Navey. In 1940 another amalgamation occurred with Davey, Paxman & Co Ltd. of Colchester. Thus the name of Ruston passed into history as one of the steam giants of the industrial revolution.The Museum of Lincolnshire Life is well worth a visit.
