Hi guys, I had nothing to do at work so I took the day off, beautiful, and I had not taken the Ferret for a run for a while so I thought that would be a better plan than paddling on the river or going to the range and busting a few caps. So in I climb, fire her up, and pull out onto the road, I had just shifted when BLAM! a sudden impact snaps my head backwards and my rear view mirror is filled with the front grill of a big grass seed truck. I pulled over and so did the truck driver, who turned out to be a punk kid, and he said "You pulled right out in front of me", to which I replied, "I was a couple of blocks past my house, so I don't think that is really the case...." and he said, "Well, I had a full load of seed on and I tried, but I just couldn't stop!" That sounded like it might be more probable than me pulling out in front of him, and when I went around to the back of my Ferret I saw that the only damage was that my vehicle number light was broken. Big deal. The kid seemed about ready to excrete an entire bovine, and my Ferret was fine, so I didn't care. I could see why he was twitchy though, the entire fiberglass front end of the truck was all shattered, the bumper was badly crumpled, and the radiator was leaking all the coolant out onto the pavement. Since I was only a couple of blocks from home I offered to let him use my phone and I drove home. On the way back I noted that there were no skid marks indicative of a desperate attempt to stop, but I just held my tongue and let the kid use my phone. Then his boss came and he had called the cops, so a good hunk of my nice day off was spent with the police filling out accident reports, blah blah blah. The police were tickled pink with it I think, and I hope the kid has learned a lesson about watching the road in front of him on blind corners. He really picked the wrong vehicle to rear-end, that is for sure. Unfortunately I do not have any photos, it did not occur to me at the time to take any.
